Gun safes are an air tight container. With only one hole instead of two or more in the safe, it makes it so that fire and heat is not able to a access the interior of the safe, and keeps things from heating up on the inside.
Downside to this, is that any humidity that is in the air, stays in the air when you close the safe. This then slowly settles down on your paperwork, and firearms, causing completely avoidable damage.
So how do we fix this?
Your standard gun safe dehumidifier essentially heats up the inside of the safe, and keeps that humidity suspended in the air within the safe, instead of allowing it to condense, and settle.
There are of course other ways to dehumidify safes, however rod dehumidifiers are the most popular.
Most gun safe dehumidifier rods essentially do the same thing, but can range in price. Below are my favorite options, and I think it best for you to choose the brand, and price that works for you!
Make sure to pay attention to the length of your cord, depending on how far away your safe is from an outlet. Also make sure you buy the right size dehumidifier rod for the cubic footage of your safe.
Best Rod Style Dehumidifiers
Goldenrod Dehumidifier Rod
This is probably the most well known dehumidifier rod on the market right now. I’m honestly not quite sure if was the first, or what, however it is worth the look.
It also has a great look, being a golden style. This would look great in some Liberty safes out there.
This dehumidifier comes with a 6 foot cord, and generates 38 watts of electricity.
They have different sizes for safes that range from 100, 200, and 300 cubic feet of interior space. Depending on size, it ranges from a little over $40 to a little over $50.
Browning Flexible Dehumidifier
This is probably my favorite dehumidifier on this list, and honestly is the one I would buy in the end.
It is much like a rod dehumidifier, but it is flexible and can wrap around the corner of the safe. This means it doesn’t take up floor space within your safe. We all know that floor space is important, as it goes away quite quickly.
I wasn’t able to find much on the specs side of things, so I probably wouldn’t count on this one on anything larger than a medium size safe.
Liberty Dehumidifying Rod
Liberty, being one the largest manufacturers of gun safes, of course also offers a dehumidifier.
Their product works for safes up to both 100, and 200 square feet depending on the size you purchase.
It does have a cord length of 6 feet, just like the Goldenrod above.
Snapsafe Rod Dehumidifer
This company makes a lot of modular gun safes, and in turn also has a great array of dehumidifier rods.
They have options for 100, 200, and 300 square feet safes. They have a removable plug for easy access to the safe.
Let’s be honest, in the category of dehumidifier rods, there isn’t much out there to differentiate between brands.
I recommend taking a look at these options, as these are brands I personally think make great safes and seem to have awesome products.
Makes sure to look through the options, and purchase the one that you think works best for your safe, and home.
