Top 13 Best Gun Safe Manufacturers: All Categories

Reading Time: 10 minutes //  by Austin

We may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Thanks for the support!

Gun safes are an important part of every gun owner’s belongings. The safe keeps their firearms safe from anyone that will want to get their hands on them, and in turn keeps themselves and their family safe.

Because of this, you need to make sure you have the best gun safe manufacturer making and backing up your gun safe. Like any good product, the manufacturer is just as important as the product itself.

Let me start this article off by saying that this isn’t necessarily in any specific order, as every company offers something a bit different, and everyone’s needs are different.

These are all just companies that I personally would shop for if I were working on finding the right safe for myself at this time.

I hope you find this as a helpful guide towards finding that right safe for you!

1. SecureIt Tactical

SecureIt Answer with the doors open
This is the Answer to import safes by SecureIt [Image courtesy of SecureIt]

There are always those certain companies in an industry that upset the rest of the industry. In the tech world it is Apple, in the car world Tesla.

However in the gun safe world, that is SecureIt Tactical! If you spend any time at all looking through their website you will find videos of the founder debunking claims by import gun safe manufacturers, and showing why they don’t hold up to what they say.

They then create alternatives that really do hold up to what they claim, and are extremely open with what they build.

Take for example the SecureIt Agile 52 and 40 are truly just cabinets. They don’t pretend to be a full out gun safe, they don’t try to have a fire rating that they don’t. Instead they offer the advertised protection.

If you need something better than that they offer other safes like the Answer Series, or even the True Safe.

2. Liberty Safes

Liberty Fatboy in black
You can’t go wrong with a Liberty Fatboy [Image courtesy of Liberty]

This company is quite literally a household name, as they are one of the largest gun safe manufacturers in the world. If you were to ask anyone if they know a manufacturer, this would likely be it.

They have gun safes that span the full spectrum of needs, from the entry level Centurion, to the National Magnum series that is one of the most expensive safes out there right now.

I personally do believe that you are paying a bit more just for the name, as there are definitely better values on safes out there. However if you go with a Liberty, you also have the peace of mind of going with something you know will work, and you know will be taken care of if anything goes wrong.

This article here I wrote really goes in depth to this brand.

3. Browning Pro-Steel

This is the new 1878 series from Browning [Image courtesy of Browning]

Did you know that Browning doesn’t actually make its own gun safes? Well, it kinda does. Pro-Steel only makes gun safes for the Browning brand, and acts as a sister company of sorts.

These safes range from just under $1000 all the way up to the Platinum Plus safes which offer 7 gauge steel and some amazing fire ratings.

Their interiors are also my favorites out there right now. The revolutionary Axis interior makes for a great looking, but also extremely functional, modular interior safe.

If you don’t need something expensive, the Sporter series may not have the axis interior, but its interior is extremely usable and is one of my go-to safes right now.

Before you get too far into your Browning search, I would recommend trying out Browning’s safe builder on their website! You can get a quote from a local retailer once you complete it.

4. Rhino Metals

This company single handedly started the distressed finish craze, that Browning, and Fort Knox have followed suit with.

That style of safe though isn’t really what defines them. They make some amazing USA made gun safes with an impressive steel configuration, matched with amazing quality.

They also offer two lines of import safes, the Bighorn brand that you will find at Costco, and then the Kodiak safes. These two brands offer an amazing value to your dollar, and highly recommend you look into them.

Regardless of what safe you choose from them, you really do know you are getting a great safe, with quality in mind.

Don’t need a gun safe, but have a whole room, they also make vault doors.

5. Fort Knox

This Fort Knox has the redundant lock that I really like [Image courtesy of Fort Knox]

As one of the other largest gun safe manufacturers out there, Fort Knox stands out as one of the most customizable safes on the market.

You can customize the locking mechanism, including redundant locks. You can also change up the color, steel thicknesses, multiple steel layers, bullet proofing, cutting torch resistant steel, even the style of hinge you want.

If you are looking for something extremely specific in a safe, Fort Knox is worth that phone call.

Once huge thing, is that no matter what custom creation you make with them, it is protected for life, and that includes the lock, which isn’t common (normally manufacturers will warranty everything else, and leave the lock up to the lock manufacturer).

6. Vaultek

RS200I by Vaultek with interior shown
This is the interior of the RS200i [Image courtesy of Vaultek]

This company hasn’t been around an extremely long time, however they have quickly become an industry leader in tech first gun safes security.

I have quite a bit of experience with their older VT10i, however more recently they have branched out into full size gun safes like the RS500i, and the RS200i.

One of their more recent options is also the LifePod, which takes everything they have learned with their pistol safes, and makes something usable for the masses. There is even an awesome new Luxe Blue color!

Vaultek makes some really great products, and if you aren’t worried about the tech end of things, these might be perfect for you. It should be mentioned though, that if you like what Vaultek has to offer, but don’t want the extra tech features, they do offer some more basic versions of their units without bluetooth and wifi (VE20, 10-Essential, etc)!

7. Amsec

I’ll be totally honest, I don’t talk about Amsec on this site probably as much as I should. It is likely because their inventory of gun safes, home safes, and business safes is daunting.

They make some amazing high end cement filled safes call the BF series, that anyone that wants serious security should really look into. They are a direct competitor to SecureIt’s True Safe.

Amsec does also make some great imported safes in their TF range of products, as well as many other safes.

I would just recommend visiting their site, to really get a grasp of what they have under the American Security (AMSEC) name. Just be aware though, just because “American” is in their name, doesn’t mean all of their products are made in America.

I personally don’t think that is a bad thing, but just something I don’t think everyone thinks about.

8. Vault Pro

Now, we talked about Fort Knox as being one of the most customizable safes on the market. However if there is a direct competitor to them, the Vault Pro would be that.

Vault Pro is known for having incredibly small gaps around their doors, and also for some crazy paint work.

I do feel sometimes like their price points seem to be a bit higher than necessary, however their quality does stand out as one of the best on the market.

9. Snapsafe

Snapsafe Titan XXL with doors open and interior full
The double door option on this Titan XXL is awesome [Image courtesy of Snapsafe]

This modular gun safe is one of my favorites out there right now!

They offer a take-apart gun safe system, that includes an impressive fire rating, great steel thickness, and on their larger safes, a double door system.

While they may be imported safes, they offer a great value for what you are getting.

If a full size gun safe isn’t what you are “hunting” for they also offer some under the bed safes that are a great option for those that just can’t fit that full size safe in a home.

10. Tracker Safe

This lock was put on right here in the USA [Image courtesy of Tracker Safe]

As a much lesser well known brand on the market, Tracker Safe has a surprisingly awesome value to steel ratio. They retail through a couple big box retailers like Home Depot, and Lowes, however unlike many other gun safes at big box retailers they have some great quality.

My favorite thing about this brand, is the fact that while they do import their safes into the USA, they install the locking mechanism onto the safe after it arrives here in the country.

This means that one of the most important parts, and the part that needs to be the most reliable has the quality control of someone invested in the product.

I recommend taking a look at this article here where it details 5 things you probably didn’t know about these guys.

11. Tactical Walls

This clock face comes off to reveal a hidden compartment [Image courtesy of Tactical Walls]

Okay, okay, so Tactical Walls doesn’t technically make a normal gun safe. However lets be honest there are tons of “gun safe manufacturers” that don’t make gun safes either.

This company makes some really impressive, and well priced diversion safes.

They make a cool clock that hides a firearm behind the face, or the one I have the most experience with is the Issue Box, a tissue box that is great for those times you have an issue.

One other awesome product by Tactical Walls you should definitely look into if you are also shopping for a vault door, is the ModWall.

12. Zanotti Armor

Three different Zanotti Safes
These are three of Zanotti’s Safes [Image courtesy of Zanotti]

Alright, so we mentioned Snapsafe earlier in this article, but what happens when you want a USA made gun safe?

You buy a Zanotti Armor Safe.

While these safes may not have a fire rating, they do have a modular design and everything is made of the best quality possible.

You can read more about this company at this article here!

13. Console Vault

Adding the console vault did not cut down on my storage space much

Alright, so I had to add at least one gun safe manufacturer that is specific to vehicles. Console Vault makes some awesome products that make your console safe.

They sent me one out for my past truck a while back, and it really is awesome. It doesn’t take up much room, is extremely easy to install (under 10 minutes with the wrong tools kinda fast), and is quick to access.

With their safes you have a choice of quite a few options for locking mechanisms which is great.

You can’t also forget their wall safe which is on this list of best wall safes!

See Prices: Console Vault

Other Manufacturers?

Of course there are so many other manufacturers out there and I can’t write about them all in this article. However here are a list of other companies that you probably should at least consider.

  • Cannon Safe
  • Winchester
  • Stack-On
  • Steelhead Outdoors
  • Stealth Tactical
  • Sun Welding Safes
  • Ironman Safes
  • Stopbox
  • Locker’ Down
  • Champion Gun Safes

Who makes the best gun safes?

So now you know which manufacturers I feel are the best on the market today! However you may still be asking “Who makes the best gun safes?”. Well that would be a great time to read through this article here.

It details the best gun safes for each category.

What gun safes are made in the USA?

Yes, I know, I know, not all of the manufacturers on this list are made in the USA. If that is what you are looking for, I have to point you in the direction of this list of best gun safes made in the USA.

Keep in mind though, just because a safe is made in the USA, doesn’t mean it is the best safe for you, or a good safe at all really. Just make sure you do your research before buying anything.

Gun safe brands to avoid?

Alright, we have learned what are the best gun safe manufacturers out there right now, however what about the gun safe brands to avoid?

In the world of security I would just recommend using the “if it doesn’t feel right, it isn’t” philosophy. There are tons of knock off manufacturers out there that don’t have a name to lose when a lock fails, or a kid gets into them.

If you get the feeling that a company is making some crazy claims, and then only charges ½ what the competitors are, you probably should just avoid that safe.

In the gun safe world, you really do get what you pay for, and cutting corners when shopping for a safe isn’t the best time to test that. However, maybe a use safe may be right for you?

Be aware, the definition of a gun safe is extremely light (as you can see in this bill), and really anyone can get away with advertising one.

Conclusion

Buying a gun safe is extremely similar to buying a car, it takes time, patience and a budget to buy the right one.

Many of the brands on this list may just not be right for you, however I do hope at least one of them is. They all make great products that you should be happy with.

Of course they do all make very different products as well.

Just do your homework, have fun, and keep your firearms safe.
