Many automatic espresso makers today have lower quality and a higher failure rate. Consider a manual espresso maker like the Flair NEO above if you want an excellent budget espresso maker for your home. We have a complete article on our favorite manual espresso makers here if that sounds like you.

Best Quality Automatic Coffee Maker
3. Moccamaster KBGV Select
4.5
$359.00
While a Moccamaster may not be the most styled coffee maker, it is highly regarded as one of the best quality units out there. You can make up to 40 ounces of delicious coffee or cut that in half to 20 ounces if you prefer a bit less. Unfortunately, while it is a fantastic coffee maker, you cannot brew single cups of coffee. If you are willing to stomach the price tag, this coffee machine is one of the best.
Specifications:
  • Brewing Method: Drip
  • Brew Capacity: 40 ounces
  • Weight: 6.25 pounds
  • Dimensions: 14" High by 12.75" Wide by 6.5" Deep

Best for Easy Espresso
4. Nespresso Vertuo by De'Longhi
4.0
$219.00
While you may have been impressed by the Flair NEO above, you might want only some of the work associated with it. If that sounds like you, a Nespresso is a great option! Much like a Keurig, this coffee machine uses a pod method, so a great cup of authentic espresso is only a quick pod insertion and a button press away. This Nespresso machine can also make coffee, making it an all-around alternative to a standard coffee machine.
Specifications:
  • Brewing Method: Drip or Espresso
  • Brew Capacity: 7.7 ounces coffee, 1.35 ounces espresso
  • Weight: 9 pounds
  • Dimensions: 12.4" High by 5.5" Wide by 16.9" Deep
Pros:
  • Makes coffee or espresso
  • High quality build
  • Inexpensive way to make great espresso at home
Cons:
  • Utilizes pods, rather than self ground coffee beans

Most Versatile Coffee Maker
5. Ninja Specialty Coffee Maker
4.5
$169.99 $118.99
I owned the older version of this coffee maker, which has stood out as one of my all-time favorite automatic coffee makers. There are plenty of capacity options (single cup to full carafe) and many different brew options, ranging from a bold flavor to specialty drinks. The sky is the limit for what you can get from this machine (unless you want espresso).
Specifications:
  • Brewing Method: Drip
  • Brew Capacity: Single Cup - 50 ounces
  • Weight: 9.24 pounds
  • Dimensions: 15" High by 8.8" Wide by 12" Deep
Pros:
  • Many different coffee brew options
  • Milk-frother wand built in
  • Can brew single cup, or full carafe
Cons:
  • Quite bulky on your counter top

Best Value Drip Coffee Maker
6. Braun MultiServe Coffee Machine
4.0
$179.95
This coffee machine is my daily driver and multiple times a day. It makes fantastic coffee, and you can choose from various sizes and flavors. This is an excellent, lower-priced alternative with many of the same features as the Ninja above. That said, I am not a fan of its capacitive buttons (which you accidentally press regularly) and that it beeps loudly with every button pressed.
Specifications:
  • Brewing Method: Drip
  • Brew Capacity: 50 ounces
  • Weight: 10 pounds
  • Dimensions: 15" High by 13" Wide by 7.1" Deep
Pros:
  • Makes awesome coffee
  • Easy to use
  • Removable water canister
  • High quality build
Cons:
  • Beeping is very loud
  • Capacitive buttons can be annoying

Best Pod Based Drip Coffee Maker
7. Keurig K-Elite Coffee Maker
3.5
$189.99 $149.00 ($149.00 / Count)
I have owned multiple Keurig Machines over time and have found that I don't enjoy the pod method it utilizes, for the additional garbage it creates, and because the grounds need to be fresh (which these aren't). That said, there isn't a more straightforward coffee machine and quicker to utilize, so if that is important, this is the one that I would buy today!
Specifications:
  • Brewing Method: Drip
  • Brew Capacity: 12 ounces
  • Weight: 8 pounds
  • Dimensions: 13" High by 9.9" Wide by 12.7" Deep
Pros:
  • Extremely easy to use
  • High quality coffee maker
  • No coffee experience needed
Cons:
  • K-Cups are not my favorite method of brew
  • Coffee can be a bit dull

What should you be looking for in a coffee maker?

It would help if you kept an eye out for many different things when shopping for your next coffee brewer. However, here are some things you may have yet to think of.

1. Different brew methods

Most people are aware of dip, automatic coffee machines. Although, there are many other types as well. One of my favorites is immersion brewing, where coffee grounds sit in hot water for some time, and then the grounds are removed; this method is seen in the Aeropress Go. There are other methods like pressure (think espresso), pour over (like a Chemex), and even cold brew (read about that here)

2. Budget and price point

I am not one to tell you to spend all of your money on the best coffee maker out there. While you may get a great coffee from it, the cost may completely offset your enjoyment. Make sure to set your budget and stick to it!

3. Size of the unit

Only some people can fit a large coffee maker on their countertop! Coffee makers like the Braun and Moccamaster we discussed above have a larger footprint and will not work well for someone with a smaller kitchen. On the other hand, coffee makers like the Aeropress Go can be easily stored in a cabinet until you are ready to use it.

Conclusion

I hope this article helped you search for the right coffee maker for your needs! I hope it also showed you how many coffee makers there are and set you out to find which works for your coffee journey. There are plenty of great options; however, these are my favorites.
