Our mission at A Man and His Gear is simple: We want to help people find the right gear so they can do the things they love to do.
How it all began
After reading one of his favorite marketing books in December 2017, our founder Austin couldn’t sleep one night. He had an idea that he just couldn’t shake. A website that provided helpful information about safes in a family-friendly, honest way. Reviews that were done with integrity, honesty and expertise. Austin grabbed his laptop to write the first article and hasn’t stopped since.
As the site started to grow over the coming months, Austin realized that there was a market for this type of content beyond just the safe industry, and transitioned the site to being about men’s gear, and A Man and His Gear was born.
Since then, A Man and His Gear has helped millions of people across our website, YouTube channel, email newsletter and beyond. Our goal stays the same: Provide a family-friendly corner of the Internet where content is created with integrity, expertise and a whole lot of fun. (Hey, we like what we do!)
Our History
We launched!
With a plethora of knowledge in the safe industry, our founder’s goal was to create content that helped people on their search for the right safe. “A Man And His Safe” was born.
We published our first article!
The first article (discussing the features of our founder’s favorite safe company “Fort Know”) was published and we haven’t stopped since!
We launched on YouTube!
We wanted to further connect with our audience, so we set our laptops aside (but just for a minute) and created our very first video.
We transitioned!
After a successful launch in the safe content space, we added to our portfolio of products that we review and transitioned to A Man and His Gear.
Our team grew!
With the success of our site and channels, it was time to add to the team, so we added a team member to work on brand partnerships, content planning and more.
And now…
Even after all these years, our goal stays the same. We want to continue to reach more people with high-quality, researched content in areas we have expertise! We’d love for you to follow along on this fun, crazy journey!

More About Us
We’re pretty lucky. Not only do we get to work with some amazing brands and test some great products, we get to do it all in one of the most amazing places on earth: Sandpoint, Idaho. Set at the base of a ski resort and along the shores of one of America’s deepest lakes, this little town is the perfect backdrop for testing out men’s gear.
Want to know if that winter coat really holds up in cold temperatures? No worries, we’ll test that on the slopes of the ski resort.
Need to know if the stand-up paddleboard you’re considering buying is really worth the hype? We’ll find out for you on the water of our local lake.
