Do you have a chassis cab, and have you been wondering if you can drive it on the road without getting pulled over? Well, I am here to tell you, yes, you can pull your chassis cab out of your garage and take it for a ride. But, as long as you have mud flaps, and taillights, and a tag on the back of your truck. Below, I will talk about what you need and how to put it on the rear end of your pickup truck. I will also talk about the prices if you have to put the bed of your truck together yourself and make it legal to ride.
Is it legal to drive a pickup truck without a bed?
If your no bed truck has taillights, tag, mud flaps, turn signals, and even a rear bumper and you may immensely drive it on the road.
If you do not have all of these items on your truck with no bed, you will most likely get pulled over.
**Please Note: This is not an exhaustive list of things you need to be legal without a bed, and you should check your local laws to make sure you are legal.**
So how do you install everything you need?
- Tail Lights: These can be mounted or even flushed on the rear of your truck. But it will also depend on its dimensions; then you can trace out what you need, mark it, then cut it out then you will need to mount your lights. Then, after you get down, cutting it out where you need to climb, you will need to cut your bumper where you want your lights to go. Then you will take your wires and taillight to their located places; then, you will need to drill holes for your screws. After preparing your spots, you will need to use the bolts and nuts that came with your light and fix the taillights—doing the same on each side. These lights will make things much easier for you when you back up.
License Plate
For A license plate bracket that is already on your truck all, you will need to take the screw out and then put your license plate on and screwing it back on counterclockwise. Remember, if you do not have all four screws, at least two are ok, and you can buy some more at the hardware store. You will want to make sure that your license plate is lined up with the license plate bracket though before you screw it on.
