Truck Beds are the most significant upside and also the biggest drawback to a pickup truck. They do a fantastic job of hauling plenty of gear, garbage, rocks, and whatever else you want to throw at them. On the flip side, they are terrible at carrying items that you might worry about rolling around in the bed of your truck, such as groceries, luggage, or fishing gear. Because pickups forgo the interior storage space of an SUV, it puts you in a predicament.
Truck bed organizers are a fantastic solution for this problem, and there are a decent array of ways to make this happen! Bed organizers can range from full-length drawers to swing-out storage containers to inexpensive bed dividers that help keep your groceries in place.
Here are the top truck bed organizers on the market and why they deserve their spot on this list!
Our Favorites at a Glance
- Editor’s Choice: DECKED Drawer System
- Best Budget Option: Red Hound Truck Bed Storage Cargo Organizer
- Best Bed Slide: DECKED CargoGlide
- Best Compact Toolbox: UnderCover SwingCase Toolbox
- Best Secure Option: TruckVault
1. DECKED Drawer System
- Lock: Utilizes Tailgate Lock
- Dimensions: Depends on Application
- Steel: N/A (High-Density Polythene)
- Fire Rating: N/A
- Weight: Depends on Application
- Extremely high quality
- Allows for a flat load area, while maximizing storage
- Weather-resistant
- Not lockable on its own
Hands down, if you want to completely transform the bed of your pickup truck into a usable drawer system but still want to be able to use your truck as a truck, a DECKED Drawer System is going to be the best option for you, even if the price is a bit hefty.
This fully weatherproof drawer system is built specifically for each truck model so that it perfectly fills the bed of your truck and doesn’t shift around. It then gives you a flat spot on top of the organizer, where you can still use your truck to haul anything (as long as it is under the 2000-pound payload capacity of the drawers).
This means you can still haul ATVs, carry gravel around, and still have a massive amount of storage in the bed of your truck.
2. Red Hound Truck Bed Storage Cargo Organizer
- Lock: None
- Dimensions: 9" High by 57" Wide by 14" Deep
- Material: Plastic
- Weight: 13.75 pounds
- Simple and easy to use
- Inexpensive solution to a big problem
- Works in any full-size truck
- Can't fit larger items
- Additional dividers are expensive
Sometimes the best solutions are also the most simple. This cargo organizer is essentially a bar (that extends to press itself up on either side of your truck bed) and an attached plastic bin. You can place it at any point in your truck bed, but the most convenient is directly behind the tailgate of your pickup.
This leaves you an easily cleanable and convenient place to put things like groceries and other gear you usually wouldn’t want in your truck bed (where an SUV would be the better solution). The best part about this cargo organizer is that it is easy to install and inexpensive!
3. DECKED CargoGlide
- Lock: None
- Dimensions: Depends on Application
- Material: Steel Construction
- Weight: Depends on Application
- Made in the USA
- Built with high quality steel
- Easy access to the full length of your truck bed
- Can handle up to 2,200 pounds (depends on option chosen)
- Very expensive
This is the second time DECKED has been mentioned in this article, and it is for a good reason! These USA-made products are high-quality and built to optimize your truck bed. The CargoGlide is their take on a bed slide, which is familiar to the market, but they are by far my favorite take on this concept.
These bring everything in your bed forward, making it easy to access everything in the truck (or at least 70%, which is its extension amount) forward and out of bed, so you can easily access everything without ever having to climb inside.
Their bed slides offer high-quality steel, marine-grade wood, and custom-fit designs depending on what truck you need it for. The base-level CargoGlide can only handle up to 1,000 pounds (which should work for most people), but you can upgrade up to 2,000 pounds if you are willing to pay the premium.
4. TruXedo Expedition
- Lock: None
- Dimensions: 2.9" High by 30.1" Wide by 16.9" Deep
- Material: Aluminum and Plastic
- Weight: 8 pounds
- Keeps gear off the bed of the truck
- Can be placed anywhere in the bed
- Raised up for easy access to contents
- Only works with tonneau covers
TruXedo is a well-known name in the truck bed accessory game, with their ever-so-popular tonneau covers (I’ve even owned one myself). Regardless, if you are someone that currently has a tonneau cover on your truck bed, this cargo sling from this brand is a fantastic option. It attaches itself to the rails of your tonneau cover and gives you off-the-bed storage that can be attached anywhere along the length of it.
That said, this only work for people with a tonneau cover, so you are out of luck if you prefer to keep your truck bed open or have a truck topper instead. However, I like this option as a fantastic alternative to a standard toolbox.
5. UnderCover SwingCase Toolbox
- Lock: Key
- Dimensions: 8.5" High by 34" Wide by 16" Deep
- Material: Plastic
- Weight: 1.25 pounds
- Fits in underutilized area of truck bed
- Easy access from outside of truck
- Inexpensive
- Easy to install
- Lower capacity
- Requires drilling into truck bed walls
Do you know that annoying and unused space around the rear wheel well of your pickup truck bed? That space can finally be used to store and organize stuff in the bed of your truck. This SwingCase from UnderCover is my favorite way to do that. The SwingCase is attached to the bed of your truck, right behind the tailgate, and sits and locks into place in that void between the tailgate and your wheel well.
When you need access to the organizer, you can quickly rotate it towards you, giving easy access without getting into the truck’s bed. While it isn’t the largest bed organizer out there, it does a fantastic job of using space that needs to be utilized. This would be a great place to keep tools, gloves, and other stuff you want to get at quickly but that doesn’t take up too much space.
6. Loading Zone Cargo Gate
- Lock: None
- Dimensions: 16" High by 54" Wide by 2" Deep
- Material: Nylon, Steel & Aluminum
- Weight: 9.55 pounds
- A full divider for the truck bed
- High quality
- Easy to use
- More difficult to store when not in use
Most truck bed dividers are essentially just a bar extending across the truck bed; however, this version is much better, as it forms a gate. This means you don’t have to worry about your gear finding its way under the bar and still rolling around the bed of your truck.
These cargo gates are a fantastic way to turn a particular portion of your bed into a cargo area (like an SUV would have). You can either make an area up close to the cab to store stuff like camping, finish gear, or keep groceries in. Alternatively, you can do the same in the back of the bed near the tailgate to make things like groceries stay in place and not roll around the bed of your truck.
Regardless of why you would want it, this Loading Zone version is my favorite, and you can’t go wrong with getting one of these.
7. Truck Luggage Saddle Bag
- Lock: None
- Dimensions: 21" High by 16" Wide by 1.5" Deep
- Material: Nylon
- Weight: Unknown
- Uses unused space in your truck bed
- Plenty of pockets to choose from
- Lower quality
- Only works with tonneau covers
Suppose you are looking for a more budget-friendly alternative to the swingout box from earlier in this article. In that case, this Saddle Bag still utilizes the unused space around your wheel well by attaching a saddle bag to your tonneau cover in that location. Yes, unfortunately, it is limited to those with a tonneau cover, but it offers fantastic usability.
The Saddle Bag has plenty of pockets (with exterior pockets having zippers), is built from fabric material, and is entirely weather resistant. While this is a straightforward and somewhat limited solution for storage in your truck bed, it is inexpensive and well worth its price.
Sometimes you can’t sacrifice any space in your bed for an organizer; however, you can sacrifice some of the height. That is where something like this load bar kit comes into play. You can store plenty of gear, such as bike racks, roof cargo boxes, ski racks, and so much more, onto these without occupying any space in your bed.
The primary downsides to these are similar to a truck topper, which limits the vertical space that your bed provides (sometimes you have to carry a refrigerator). That said, each rail is only held on by four bolts, which are easy enough to remove if you need that additional space.
9. Putco Truck Bed Molle Panels
- Lock: None
- Dimensions: Varies by Application
- Material: Aluminum
- Weight: 11 pounds
- Adds tons of storage in unused truck bed spaces
- Extremely versatile
- High price point
I have been keeping this article updated for years, and with this most current update, I was surprised to see these molle panels, as it had never been on my radar before. These panels are incredibly versatile and worth installing into any truck bed, particularly for those that enjoy overlanding or offroading. Molle panels give you space to store things like recovery boards, gas cans, shovels, and more without having an exterior rack.
Each application of these molle panels is specific to each truck, so make sure they are laid out exactly how they should be to maximize storage in your truck. These USA-made panels are also great for allowing you to continue to use your bed like a truck and are compatible with truck toppers and tonneau covers. It’s like having an overlanding build, but in secret (are those allowed?).
10. TruckVault
- Lock: Key
- Dimensions: Depends on Application
- Material: Various
- Fire Rating: N/A
- Weight: Depends on Application
- Lockable storage
- Completely custom to your application
- Can choose from hundreds of options
- Highly expensive
Now, if you want the ultimate storage in your pickup truck’s bed, this has to be it. You take everything from the DECKED at the top of this list and dial it up to 11. With hundreds of options to choose from, tons of different drawer configurations, and more, this is one of the best drawer systems (that are lockable) on the market today.
That said, these are also incredibly expensive and are built to order for your specific vehicle. While this may only be for some (due to cost), it is a fantastic option for the few who need something this serious in the bed of their truck.
What should you keep in mind when shopping for truck bed organizers?
1. How much do you need to store in the organizer?
While brands like DECKED and TruckVault change entirely how the bed of your pickup truck is used, that is only for some. If you only need quick storage for smaller items, a swingout system from UnderCover will be the better option. Before you make any purchase, take a quick inventory of what is in the bed of your truck right now (and what you might want to add), and buy based on that, not just what you think is the shiny thing right now.
2. How do you usually use your truck bed?
Take a quick thought about how you use your truck bed now. Do you use it to haul tons of dirt, do you use it to haul ATVs, or do you need it for that grocery run? Each application will take a different direction for what storage solutions you need.
3. Do you still need to use the whole bed regularly?
If your goal is to use the whole bed regularly for things like hauling rock or dirt, you might want to avoid getting a drawer system, and instead, something like a swing-out rack might be the better solution. You should also consider if you need access to the bed from above, as storage solutions like Triple Load Bar Kit we discussed earlier will take that ability away from you.
4. Are you willing to modify your truck?
Some storage solutions require you to modify your bed by drilling into it for mounting points. Before you make any purchase, think through if you are willing to do that (or pay for someone to do it), and shy away from products that require it if you don’t feel comfortable.
