Can Camping Chairs Get Wet? [6 Examples]

Reading Time: 2 minutes //  by Austin

It always feels like, without fail, that it will rain when you are out camping. While it can be a lot of fun, it also makes you think about all of the things that might get ruined at your campsite by that water.

One of the main things you likely will consider is your camping chairs.

So can camping chairs get wet, and you can leave them out in the rain? Thankfully, camping chairs are generally water resistant, and should have no problem standing up to the rain, meaning you can leave them outside while camping without fear of ruining them.

Maybe focus on things like getting that guitar out of the rain instead eh?

How do I know they are water resistant?

So how do we know that camping chairs are water resistant? Well, I jumped on to REI’s website, and filtered out all of their chairs to just camping specific chairs, I then sorted them by most popular and chose the first six chairs that showed up!

Below is a table showing those 4 chairs, and whether they are advertised as water resistant.

NameWater ResistantLink
NEMO Stargaze Recliner Luxury ChairYesSee Chair
REI Co-op Flexlite Camp ChairYesSee Chair
YETI Trailhead Camp ChairUnknownSee Chair
REI Co-op Flexlite Air ChairYesSee Chair
REI Co-op Flexlite Camp Boss ChairYesSee Chair
LekiSub 1 ChairYesSee Chair

As you probably can see of the 6 different camping chairs, 5 of them are advertised as either water resistant or water repellent.

Strangely enough, I couldn’t find any advertising of whether the Yeti chair was water resistant… however based on Yeti’s reputation as being one of the best of the best when it comes to camping, I’m going to bet it can handle a little water (probably better than the rest).

What should you do if they do get wet?

While camping chairs generally are able to get wet, you definitely need to make sure you are doing your due diligence to keep the chairs in their best condition.

Before you head back home from the campsite, make sure to dry them off, and don’t leave any water on them. This will allow them to stay in their best condition, and not have water marks or fading in the fabric or metal.

When you are home, I wouldn’t recommend leaving them outside, or in your vehicle. Instead put them somewhere dry and safe!

While camping chairs generally are going to be water resistant! Make sure to do your own research and verify before you buy.

These chairs aren’t exactly cheap, so keeping them in their best condition is important. If you do take care of them, they should be able to be a great seat for you at your camp site for years to come.
