All 9 Best Glass Coffee Mugs

Best Glass Coffee Mugs
1. Fellow Stagg Tasting Glasses
5.0
Fellow Products has quickly become one of my favorite coffee accessory brands, and their tasting glasses top my list of glass coffee mugs. This set of two 10-ounce, double-walled glass mugs is an excellent deal. I enjoy that they have a flared lip (that is single-walled), which enhances the feel considerably. I wish it had more capacity, as I prefer a 12 to 14-ounce mug, and it was more affordable.

  • Double walled
  • Dishwasher safe
  • It comes with 2 in the set
Cons:
  • Expensive
  • It could use a bit more capacity

Best Style Glass Coffee Mug
2. CHEMEX Double-Walled Mug
4.5
If the style of your glass mug is what you are after, this double-walled glass mug is my favorite choice. While it has straight sides on the outside, the interior wall of the mug dips inward to give an excellent look reminiscent of the CHEMEX Pour-Over coffee maker we are all so familiar with. While I would prefer a larger capacity and a lower price point for a single glass, the styling of this mug makes it highly forgivable.
Pros:
  • Cool floating design
  • High quality
  • Works with pour-over kit
Cons:
  • No flared lip
  • It could be a bit more affordable
Specifications:
  • Capacity: 10 ounces
  • Construction: Double-Walled Borosilicate Glass

Best To-Go Glass Coffee Mug
3. KeepCup BrewCork 12oz
4.5
Most to-go coffee mugs are made from metal or, worse, plastic. However, KeepCup has made a fantastic alternative to taste-altering materials with this tempered glass coffee mug wrapped in cork and featuring a lid. This means you can still have your coffee on-the-go, but don't have to sacrifice taste for utility. At 12 ounces, it is just the right size for a decent cup of coffee while not being too bulky for the rest of your day. Remember, while it may have a cork band, this is a single-wall construction mug, and you shouldn't touch the glass portions when in use.
Pros:
  • Cool, to-go design
  • Built-in cork hand saver
  • Multiple capacity options
Cons:
  • Single wall construction
  • Expensive
Specifications:
  • Capacity: 12 ounces
  • Construction: Tempered Glass

Best Glass Mugs for Espresso
5. KRUVE PROPEL Espresso Glass Set
4.0
A standard glass coffee mug won't work for espresso. Traditional glass mugs have far too much air space, which causes the espresso to cool down quickly and become bitter. Instead, you will want to get espresso-specific mugs like these from Kruve! Not only will they help keep your espresso hot, but the double-walled construction will keep the outside cool. While it may have a high price point for two glasses, its styling and design are well worth it.

  • Unique design
  • Curved lip
  • Perfect for espresso
Cons:
  • Expensive
  • Won't work for standard drip coffee
Specifications:
  • Capacity: 2.5 ounces

Most of the glass coffee mugs on this list could be expensive; however, these glass espresso mugs stand out as one of the best. As a set of two mugs, each at 5.4 ounces, these could double a standard drip coffee mug while maintaining the features you need to keep espresso hot. You don't have to sacrifice too much for the price, as these are still double-walled construction and are handmade.

Best Large Capacity Glass Mug
7. Bodum Bistro Double-Wall Latte Cup
4.0
The primary issue with most glass coffee mugs is their size! I like having a larger mug; however, most glass versions are between 10 to 12 ounces, but that isn't so with this Latte Cup from Bodum. It maintains the double-walled construction but pushes the capacity to 15 ounces, making it the best larger glass coffee mug. This size does come at a cost, though. However, a two-pack is always a good plus!
Pros:
  • Large capacity
  • Equipped with a handle
  • Double-walled construction
  • 2-Pack
Cons:
  • No flared lip

Best Simple Glass Mug
9. CHEMEX Glass Mug
3.5
CHEMEX is knocking it out of the park with its glass coffee mugs! If you are looking for a lighter-weight version of the CHEMEX double-walled mug earlier in this list and prefer to hold it by a handle, this is it. Utilizing the hourglass shape of their pour-over coffee maker, this is a unique conversation starter that is just plain awesome. Unfortunately, the single-wall construction will be hot to the touch and only holds 10 ounces. However, it looks incredible while doing that.
Pros:
  • CHEMEX's High Quality

Cons:
  • Thin, breakable handle
  • Single-wall consutruction

What to look for when buying a glass mug

Glass coffee mugs are not all created equal! You must pay attention to capacity, construction, design, lip style, and more to ensure you purchase the right glass mug. Let’s dig into each category to ensure you think through everything before pressing that “buy” button.

1. Single, or double walled

As I am sure you have seen throughout this article, there are three different directions manufacturers take when making a glass mug. They can be a single wall, a double wall, or a mixture of single and double walls. I like the double wall construction with a single wall lip. This allows your fingers not to get burned from the liquid and the drink to stay warm longer while allowing for a fantastic drinking experience.

2. Coffee Capacity

I use more oversized coffee mugs; however, glass coffee mugs tend to have smaller capacities. Keep this in mind when buying your mug, as you might wish you had a few more ounces to spare. Remember, espresso glasses generally are only a couple of ounces and will not double nicely as a standard glass coffee mug, so you may have to buy two different ones if you drink both drip and espresso.

3. Curved or straight interior

The interior of a coffee mug is essential! There are three main types of interiors.

  1. Mugs that curve outwards – I do not prefer this style, as coffee tends to splash outwards.
  2. Straight-sided interiors – This interior style does a great job of keeping coffee in the cup rather than splashing out. However, it doesn’t sacrifice drinkability, primarily when it utilizes a flared lip design.
  3. Curved inwards – While these inward-curving interiors do a fantastic job keeping coffee inside the mug, they struggle with the coffee-drinking experience.

In the end, my favorite style of interior is the straight-sided interior! However, there are always different types of people that prefer other interiors.

4. Lip of the mug

There are two different types of coffee cup lips!

  1. Standard lip – This is the type of lip that you are most used to, where the wall of the mug comes up to the top of the mug and then ends. This is the least expensive way to build a mug, and it works for most people.
  2. Flared lip – This is my favorite type of coffee mug lip! While it is generally only on more expensive coffee mugs, it makes for a much better experience. Ideally, these lips allow your mouth to form the mug and make for a more comfortable drink.

5. Dishwasher safe

Glass dishes can be challenging to wash; many cannot be used in a dishwasher, and you should be aware of this when buying a glass coffee mug. You should also consider if the mug can be used in an oven or microwave, and even if they can be put into a freezer without worrying about damaging it.

Upsides & Downsides of Glass Coffee Mugs

Pros

  • Extremely nice aesthetically
  • I like how they feel
  • You can see the coffee in the glass
  • A fun experience

Cons

  • Glass doesn’t maintain heat as well as ceramic
  • While most are dishwasher safe, it does lower the life of the glass mug
  • More breakable

Are glass mugs better than ceramic ones?

This is debated in the coffee industry, and from what I have found, ceramic is a better coffee mug overall. However, as discussed earlier in this article, there are many great reasons to use a glass coffee mug, including the aesthetics and the fun factor. Just because something isn’t the best thing doesn’t make it the wrong thing. I like having both ceramic and glass available.

Will glass mugs work with an Aeropress?

I do not recommend utilizing a glass coffee mug with an Aeropress! From experience, I have found that the downward pressure from the Aeropress onto the top of the mug can cause the glass mug to break. Instead, I recommend utilizing a different mug (make sure to preheat it, though) and then transferring that coffee into the glass mug if you prefer a glass texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Conclusion

Glass coffee mugs make a huge difference when you drink your coffee! They help taste your coffee, look great, and are incredibly useful. However, ensure you don’t drop them, as they have a higher likelihood of breaking over other mugs on the market.
