Want to find the best gun safe at Lowes? Lowes may not be the first place you would think to buy a gun safe, however they have so many stores around the USA that it can make purchasing one simple! They also have a pretty decent selection of quality safes that they offer.
You will find names like Tracker Safes, Sentry Safe, Stack-On and Barska on this list! All of these are well known brands in the industry.

- Internal Dimensions: 2.2” High by 9.7” Wide by 6.7” Deep
Summary
The Sentry Safe QAP1BE is a super popular pistol safe, not just at Lowest but many other places. I personally don’t have a ton of experience on this unit, however the customer reviews are pretty extensive and overall positive!
The only issue I have heard about on this one is issues with the gas struts failing. So make sure when you get your unit, that you make sure your gas struts work well.
Sentry Safe has been around for quite a while, and make some good products.
Pros:
- Has multiple unlock options
- Auto opening door
- Rather lightweight
Cons:
- Rather expensive
- Sounds like some units may have gas struts issues
Competitors
The Sentry Safe QAP1BE competes right in the middle of the range of safes. The Vaultek and Gunbox safes are going to be a bit nicer, and more feature rich, but they are a higher cost.
If you are open to not having a biometric lock, there is a cheaper version of this safe without that, however it maintains the digital keypad and key bypass.
2. Best Gun Safe Under $500 – Stack-On 14-Gun Combination Lock Fire Resistant Gun Safe

Key Features
- Gun Safe Lock: Mechanical lock

Product Specs
- Weight: 287 lbs
- External Dimensions: 55″ Tall by 20.25 wide by 19 Deep
- Internal Dimensions: 52.75″ Tall by 16.5″ Wide by 14.75″ Deep
Summary
Stack-On safes tend to show up pretty much anywhere you will shop for a safe, and Lowes is really no different.
I do have to say though, they chose a good Stack-On to sell. This mechanical lock version of their safes gives a good base for a reliable safe. It doesn’t have batteries to die, and it has the reliability you would want out of the safe.
Definitely keep an eye out for that (possibly) low gauge steel, and the inability to have quick access to the safe due to lack of a keypad.
Pros:
- Mechanical lock is great for this price point, due to its reliability
- It does have a fire rating, which is difficult for this money
- Lifetime warranty is nice to have
Cons:
- Slow access
- Unknown steel thickness
Competitors
Stack-On tends to dominate the low end of safes, however the Economy Safes by Stealth might be another great option in these safes.
3. *BONUS* Gun Safe Under $500 – Barska 12-Gun Biometric Gun Safe
Price: $436.13
Key Features
- Gun Safe Lock: Biometric Lock
- Steel Thickness: 16 gauge
- Fire Rating: None

- Aesthetics: Is a pretty standard import safe style
- Additional Features: Stores up to 120 Fingerprints, 3 Removable Shelves
Product Specs
- Weight: 114 pounds
- External Dimensions: 57″ Tall by 13.75″ Wide by 13.38″ Deep
- Internal Dimensions: 56.5″ Tall 13.5″Wide by 12.5″ Deep
Summary
I don’t normally recommend biometric full size safes too regularly, mainly because their locks don’t tend to live up to the hype, and can cause more issues than solve.
Barska does specialize in these locks though, so I imagine if anyone could do it, it would be them though.
It would be great to have instantaneous unlocking capability, however you are going to be sacrificing in other ways, as a lot of cost will go into the lock, instead of into the steel thickness.
Pros:
- Quick access locking mechanism
- Can handle many fingerprints
- Comes with multiple backup keys
Cons:
- Biometric locks can be temperamental
- Could really use some thicker steel
Competitors
There aren’t really a ton of biometric small rifles safes on the market today. However Vaultek recently released their RS500i, but it is over $1000, so doesn’t really compare.
4. Best Under $1000 – Tracker Safe 24 Gun Safe with Electronic Lock (TS24)

Key Features
- Gun Safe Lock: SecuRam SafeLogic Basic
- Steel Thickness: 12 gauge

- Weight: 425 pounds
- External Dimensions: 59″ High by 30″ Wide by 24″ Deep
- Interior Dimensions: 56.5″ High by 28.5″ Wide by 17.5″ Deep
Summary
Tracker Safe may not be a household name (unless you buy one I guess), however they have some really impressive features built into an inexpensive safe.
With an electronic lock, 12 gauge steel, external hinges, and more, this is beginning to sound a lot like some much more expensive safes out there.
If all I had was a $1000 and was standing in Lowes, this would probably be my choice of safe to buy.
Pros
- Thick steel for the price
- Good quality electronic lock
- Has a decent fire rating
- Is really heavy
Cons
- Can’t really think of any for this price point
Competitors
Some other safes with similar specifications to this one would be Steelwater Safes, The Browning Sporter Series, and Rhino’s Bighorn/Kodiak line of safes!
5. Under $1500 – Tracker Safe 25 Gun Safe (M22)
Price: 1,398.92
Key Features
- Gun Safe Lock: Group 2 Mechanical Dial Lock
- Steel Thickness: 11 gauge steel

- Additional Features: One large upper shelf included, Three small shelves included
Product Specs
- Weight: 560 pounds
- External Dimensions: 59″ High by 30″ Wide by 24″ Deep
- Internal Dimensions: 55.75″ High by 27.5″ Wide by 18″ Deep
Summary
Yep, that’s right! Another Tracker Safe! Alright, so there aren’t many choices for these full size safes at Lowes, however there really could be a lot worse choices out there to be stuck with than Tracker Safes.
This safe is basically an upgraded version of the last gun safe we discussed on this list. With 11 gauge steel, more bolts, and more weight, it gives that much more for not really that much of a price difference.
I don’t feel like you could go wrong with this safe.
Pros:
- Even thicker steel than last option
- Mechanical lock gives reliability
- Awesome fire rating
Cons:
- Slow to access due to lock
Competitors
There really aren’t a ton of 11 gauge import safes out there, I think Steelwater has one. Other than that it’s main competitors would be the Liberty Fatboy, and Browning has some good competitors.
6. Best Gun Safe Just Over $2000.00 – Tracker Safe 46 Gun Safe (M45)
Price: $2,090.00
Key Features
- Gun Safe Lock: Group 2 Mechanical Dial Lock
- Steel Thickness: 11 gauge steel
- Fire Rating: 60 minutes at 1250 degrees w/ Heat activated door seal
- Security Features: 16 x 1.25” Diameter Steel Locking Bolts, relocker, hard plate, anchor kit included
- Warranty: Limited Lifetime Warranty
- Aesthetics: Is a pretty standard textured black safe
- Additional Features: Two large upper shelf included, Six small shelves included
Product Specs
- Weight: 1000 pounds
- External Dimensions: 72″ High by 42″ Wide by 27.5″ Deep
- Internal Dimensions: 68.5″ High by 39.5″ Wide by 21″ Deep
Summary
Alright, so this safe is if you want the best one that Lowes has. Yes, again, it’s a Tracker Safe. However this one is huge! At 72” high, it is taller than most other safes on the market.
At a whopping 1000 pounds, it also weighs up there with some of the best.
At just over $2000 it offers a great value, not just for at Lowes’ but the gun safe market in general.
Pros:
- Thick steel
- Reliable dial lock
- Great fire rating
- Huge gun safe
Cons
- Might be too big for some people
- This weight of safes is difficult to move into a home
Competitors
A close competitor would be Browning’s Rawhide 49 Tall Wide. They have super similar dimensions and specs, however the Tracker Safe is considerably cheaper. If you need the basics for a safe, I would go with the Tracker, if you want the bells and whistlers, the Browning may be worth a look.
Conclusion
For being a home improvement store, Lowes has a surprising amount of options for a gun safe. Ranging from the cheap pistol safe, all the way up to safes on the large end of the spectrum.
They really do have something for everyone at Lowes.
