Fire pits are crazy awesome, they let you get outside and enjoy company around a fire. However they also have their downsides, such as your clothes smelling like fire, and just the time it takes to get it going.

That is where the propane fire pit comes in! It looks just like a normal fire pit, but is quick to start, and doesn’t make your clothes smell terrible.

Nowadays, there are tons of different great options on the market to buy yourself one of these types of fire pits, all ranging heavily in price range.

Here are some of my personal favorites, including brands like Giantex, Heininger, Fire Sense and more. Of course none of these are really household names, but they offer you the ability to have an easy fire in your backyard, with considerably less work than the traditional fire pit.

1. Heininger 5995 Portable Fire Pit

One of the best things about fire pits is their ability to be extremely simple. Without the need for wood to constantly be added, and it not getting knocked around constantly, they can be lightweight, and design friendly.

I really like this simple design of the Heininger 5995. It gives you the usability you need, but nothing more than that.

It offers 58,000 BTUs of heat, a 19 inch diameter and a 10 foot propane hose to keep the gas far away from the heat source.

  • BTUs: 85,000
  • Price: $$$
  • Size of the fire pit: 19″ Diameter
  • Aesthetics: ✰✰✰
  • Portability: 22 pounds

2. Fire Sense Sporty

Looking for a smaller fire pit than what you are seeing above? This Fire Sense Sporty might be a great solution for you. With its 15″ diameter, it would fit well into many smaller backyards without an issue.

It comes with a lid, which is optional on some other propane fire pits, and has a bit less of a cost!

Keep in mind though, with its smaller size it does give off less heat, being 60,000 BTUs. It also cuts the hose size to 5 feet.

  • BTUs: 60,000
  • Price: $$
  • Size of the fire pit: 15″ Diameter
  • Aesthetics: ✰✰✰
  • Portability: 18 pounds

3. Camp Chef Redwood

This larger firepit takes a bit of a different route than the ones we have talked about before! While you normally would find walls around the fire, this one removes that and replaces it with a cool tubular rim.

This does make some sense, as you don’t have to worry about keeping sparks in, but doesn’t look quite as traditional as others.

It offers a 19″ diameter rim (15″ fire pit), but only maxes out at 55,000 BTUs.

The propane fire pit gives a 5 foot hose, and is 33 pounds making it one of the less portable units on this list.

  • BTUs: 60,000
  • Price: $$$
  • Size of the fire pit: 15″ Diameter
  • Aesthetics: ✰✰✰✰
  • Portability: 33 pounds

4. Outland Firebowl Premium

Here is another simple, durable style fir pit! This is an extremely popular option, and is meant to be relatively portable.

It comes with a carry kit, and cover to make that exact thing that much easier.

It’s base is solid, making it great for on-the-go, as it isn’t likely to get damaged.

At 58,000 BTUs, it isn’t a crazy warm heater, but it does makes up for it in its portability.

  • BTUs: 58,000
  • Price: $$
  • Size of the fire pit: 19″ Diameter
  • Aesthetics: ✰✰✰✰
  • Portability: 25 pounds

5. Outland Firebowl Standard

If you don’t want to spend quite as much as for the Premium we talked about a moment ago, this standard version would be a great option!

It carries over most all of the same specifications as the Premium, except it now has a manual start (using a lighter), and doesn’t have quite as nice of a base.

Outside of that, it maintains all the portability, but sheds a few bucks to make it more affordable.

  • BTUs: 58,000
  • Price: $$
  • Size of the fire pit: 19″ Diameter
  • Aesthetics: ✰✰✰
  • Portability: 25 pounds

6. Volcano Grills 3-Fuel Portable Camping Stove/Fire Pit

This fire pit is awesome! It is able to handle 3 different types of fuel. Propane, Charcoal, or Wood.

It also is more of a cooking surface, rather than your standard fire pit, but of course still works as an awesome fire pit as well.

Keep in mind though, because of its dual purpose, it does only push out 19,500 BTUs, so that it doesn’t destroy any food you are cooking on it.

It also has the ability to collapse down to a 5 inch tall circle, making it an extremely portable option.

  • BTUs: 19,500
  • Price: $$$$
  • Size of the fire pit: 17″ Diameter
  • Aesthetics: ✰✰
  • Portability: 5 pounds

7. Bond Manufacturing 67836

If you are looking for a basic, but great performing propane fire pit, this might a great option.

It offers 54,000 BTUs and a basic design for under $100. There are tons of a great reviews out there that show this as one of the best on the market for the price.

It does come with a locking lid, that has a handle on top, so you can easily transport it from place to place easily!

  • BTUs: 54,000
  • Price: $
  • Size of the fire pit: 18.5″ Diameter
  • Aesthetics: ✰✰
  • Portability: 18 pounds

8. Giantex Firebowl Outdoor Portable Propane Gas Fire Pit

This lightweight, high quality fire pit by Giantex, is by no means the cheapest option on this list! However it has many of the great features like the longer 10 foot hose, and a simple design that sets it apart.

At under 20 pounds, it can easily be transported and moved. Making it even easier, it comes with a carry kit, and a lid.

With 58,000 BTUs, it also is one of the highest BTU units on this list as well.

  • BTUs: 40,000
  • Price: $$$$
  • Size of the fire pit: 19″ Diameter
  • Aesthetics: ✰✰✰
  • Portability: 19.5 pounds

9. Giantex Gas Fire Pit

Most of the fire pits we have talked about on this list have been more on the portable end of the spectrum, however this one is a bit different!

If you are looking for a fire pit, that really replaces a brick or stone fire pit, this is going to be your best bet!

It uses a rock feature styling, and 28″ in width to give you the feeling that you have a true fire pit, but still have the ease of a propane fire pit.

  • BTUs: 40,000
  • Price: $$$$$
  • Size of the fire pit: 28″ Diameter
  • Aesthetics: ✰✰✰✰
  • Portability: 52 pounds

What to think about when shopping for your fire pit

There are quite a few different things you should be thinking about when shopping for your fire pit! Here are a some of those things.

Most, but not all people are buying a fire pit to keep in their backyard to heat themselves on colder nights! Huddled around the fire with friends and family.

Because of this, the heat of the fire pit should be the #1 thing to think about when buying a fire pit!

Make sure you are buying the right BTU amount when shopping for your application.

Have a smaller area to heat, you don’t need quite as many BTUs, have a larger area? The opposite is true.

Of course like everything else you buy, you have to decide if the price and value match up for your situation.

While we here on this site would like to say exactly what is the best value, it really is up to you what you can, or can’t spend, and what features are best for your application.

Size of the fire pit

Want more fire in your fire pit? Want something a little more compact? That is where this is going to come into play.

If you have a small backyard, you likely aren’t going to want a huge fire pit, and would prefer a smaller profile unit.

Have a huge yard, and want the fire pit to be a focal point of it? A larger unit is going to be best for you.

Some people want something crazy simple, other people want something that shows just how expensive it really is.

Fire pits are going to be offered in a huge range of styles, and its up to you to choose which one is your favorite.

If you are looking to take your fire pit with you, then you need to make sure you are buying a fire pit that matches that.

Some propane fire pits are not meant to ever be moved from their landing place, while others can easily be taken with you to camp sites, or just to different places in your yard.

I hope this article has helped you hunt down your new favorite propane fire pit! Make sure the one you buy has the right features for your situation.

On a different note, make sure to read through this article if you are also on the hunt for a new grill!
