Here is the StopBox Review you have been waiting for, this box takes a very different direction to the pistol safe and handgun safes industry. With a polycarbonate-ABS build, and only 6 possible combinations (upgradable to 9) it isn’t as strong as a normal pistol safe, and isn’t the most secure either.

So why does it exist when other safes are cheaper and more secure?

I must admit, at first glance, I thought this product was not a product I would recommend. However after a closer look, some things really stood out to me that changed my mind. First lets take a look at what this is really meant to be!

You will notice on StopBox’s website, they don’t advertise the product as a safe, or a vault anywhere on their site. They call it a “Handgun Retention Device” that is marketed as keeping it out of children’s hands and to allow for quick access wherever you are.

This to me could really make a lot of sense. As a storage space between where you are going, and your full size gun safe at home, it really does the job well. It gives you quick access, and buys you time even if someone does get your pistol box.

This is a product to store your handgun when you are personally with it, not to store it without your eyes on the gun.

Please note: If you are away from your firearm, I recommend a real pistol safe that is made of heavier steel.

Quick Access

The gesture based lock on the retention device only has 6 combinations. While I wish really do wish there were more possible combinations (future product I hope?) After spending only a little time with the box, I was able access the StopBox very very quickly. The quickest of any handgun storage box I have used.

Accessing the product just takes, basically, gripping one of the corners of the safe with you hand in a specific combination and its open.

Lightweight

This thing is light, like really light. It is advertised as only 20 ounces, and after using the box lives up to the reputation of being lightweight. In comparison, one of my other recommended safes the Vaultek VT10i is 83.2 ounces.

For the purpose of this product, it is easy to carry and move around.

Warranty

Because this product is something that is slightly out of the norm, I am glad to see that this has a 30 day money back guarantee, as well as a limited lifetime warranty after that.

This allows you to really get to try out if it works for you before committing to keeping it.

USA Made

For such a low price point product. I’m really glad to see this thing is made in the USA!

A couple things I would be excited to see in a later edition of the safe are these things.

Keep in mind, if you are going to leave your handgun out of your site, this may not be the best choice.
