Owning the right safe for you, is incredibly important! It will mean the difference between you actually using the safe, and you spending hundreds of dollars on something that will just sit in the corner.
I recently got an email from one of our readers, that was hoping to know the real difference between the Vaultek VT Series, and the Lifepod 2.0. Here was what he asked me!
I was looking to buy a small safe from Vaultek and was torn between two products (the Lifepod 2.0 and VT10). I saw that this site has reviews on both these safes. I cannot seem to find any placed that directly compare the two safes to each other.
Since you had reviewed both safes I was wondering if you would be able to help me understand the differences between these safes a little better?
Getting this question actually caught my eye, because both of these safes have been some of my favorite units out there right now! While made by the same manufacturer, they offer features that mean they will give people different capabilities.

Vaultek VT10i vs Lifepod 2.0
So this was my response to him, and I thought it would be great for you guys to be able to see it as well.
Thanks for reaching out! Happy to help out with my thoughts on this.
I would recommend the Vaultek VT10i to someone who is looking to primarily store a firearm, and that is its main focus. It likely would double as a nightstand safe, and probably won’t be transported all the time. While it is a portable safe, it just isn’t built quite as portable as the Lifepod 2.0.
If you are looking for something portable, waterproof, and something where you can easily store other items like wallets, watches, etc while on-the-go. That Lifepod 2.0 would be my favorite option. Keep in mind, the VT10i is able to carry other items, but just not as well as the Lifepod.
Both have an overlap for sure, but definitely also have their distinctions as well!
After this, he let me know that the Lifepod would likely be the best fit for him, as he wants to take it on the go, and isn’t necessarily taking a firearm with him.
His main concern with the Lifepod was its durability due to it being made partially by polymer plastic. Here was my response to that.
As for the Polymer, it’s difficult to say exactly how durable it will be, however I do know Vaultek is one of the highest quality brands on the market right now for these types of safes, so I wouldn’t worry too much on that end.

Additional Specifications
You didn’t think that I was going to just leave you with just some opinions huh? Below are the quick specifications between the VT10i and the Lifepod 2.0. I’ll recap the differences right after this!
Vaultek VT10i
- External Dimensions: 14.5″ Long by 10.6″ Wide by 3.3″ High
- Internal Dimensions: 13.7″ Long by 6.5″ Wide by 2.75″ High
- Weight: 16 pounds
- Lock Options: Biometric, Keypad, Phone Access, Smart Key, Physical Key
- Additional Features: Impact Detection, Metal construction, security cable included, interior lighting
Lifepod 2.0
- External Dimensions: 12.25″ Long by 8.5″ Wide by 2.875″ High

- Weight: 3.3 pounds
- Lock Options: Keypad, Physical Key
- Additional Features: Interior tray storage, water resistant, carry handle, interior lighting, security cable
As you can tell from these quick specs, the Lifepod is obviously more portable by only being 3.3 pounds instead of the 16 pounds that the VT10i is. It also offers interior tray storage so items don’t move around while being carried, and of course it gives you a carry handle and a water resistant construction that the VT10i doesn’t have.
On the other hand, the Vaultek VT10i obviously is meant for security, with its metal construction, many secure lock options, impact detection and more.
So which one is right for you?
When you are reading this article, and have similar questions to this reader, I hope it has helped you out!
If you are looking for a portable, to-go safe, the Lifepod 2.0 is an awesome option, and I recommend buying it here.
However if you are looking for something that is more focused on security and portability as a secondary thing, the Vaultek VT10i is an awesome option. I recommend you get it here.
Conclusion
While both safes definitely have their defining characteristics, the one thing that is in common is quality. I am a big fan of Vaultek, and really any products they make.
Their attention to details is awesome, and they have really revolutionized the industry in a way no one else has been able to.
